In my central Venice costumes atelier, you can find Venetian Carnival costumes for sale or rent; there are thousand – historical or not – created by myself for the Il Ballo del Doge event, together with other theatrical and cinematographic representations, inspired by various historical periods.
In this timeless space, magic and full of awesomeness, where the enchantment of Venice’s Carnival is still alive, you can find costumes, masks, hats and precious accessories from my own collection.
Your encounter with my Venice costumes atelier is a moment full of playfulness, fantasy and imagination. To choose a costume in fact allows you to travel towards other realities, showing you a secret trait of your personality, often hidden in your daily life.
As I dress my guests in my atelier, costumes such as Marie Antoinette or Caterina Cornaro, taking over my role of tailor, surrounding them with lovely servants, like they are back in “court” time, I can feel the total identification with the historical character, since someway those characters belong to them.
The costume, the disguise, the mask are a way to reveal ourselves, to convey a message or a feeling, a shade of our personality, thanks to an intellectual and very subtle creative activity. On this matter, I would like to tell you something more.
When I was just a little girl, i was mesmerised by the Turandot character, Giacomo Puccini’s opera princess, cold and cruel figure, that became like this only in order to protect herself from the Love feeling that scared her so much.
Why did I love Turandot? Well, because my past shyness towards my peers, that showed me as cold and introverted, found behind that mask a refuge and an expression, and I was seeing myself in it.
Since a younger age I started playing this marvellous game. Everytime my mother created those Carnival costumes, wearing them, I played the most various roles, discovering their history, the places they came from and their thoughts.
I believe that trying on costumes in my atelier gives you the opportunity to live an experience as Marie Antoinette, the Doge, Caterina Cornaro, the courtier Veronica Franco, a noblewoman or Giacomo Casanova. It is both for me and you a thrilling experience!
Moreover, let’s not forget that Venice is the perfect set for any costume representation. Once you are all dressed up, with your make up on, I will guide you to St Mark’s Square, towards its more romantic and suggestive corners, through medieval and renaissance scenarios, eventually finding oriental tracks.
